GDC-XII – Garfey Dot Com 2012

Who could believe it was that time of year again – December = another Nijmegen reunion dinner, although the Nijmegen element seems to be taking a back seat and it’s more of an ex-424 reunion. This year we had to contend with several of the lads being away on Ops, and one on a post Ops holiday of a lifetime…barnsey! We started off in Winchester town for a cheeky couple before getting into our evening wear to enjoy the delights of the Gurkha mess, and finally back into going-out wear for a few more jars in Winchester town. I think everyone will agree it was an epic night, with and epic hangover to follow!

Sam and I go to Harry Potter Land for my birthday! Who says we have to grow up?

We actually went to Orlando Florida, home of many theme parks, but the main new attraction being “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” the attention to detail is amazing there.

Anyway, two great weeks of eating and drinking craploads, and scaring that crap out of ourselves on numerous rides and attractions. Watch the videos of Manta – the best roller coaster ever! The Hulk. Harry Potter and the forbidden journey. Disco H2O to name but a few. There were loads of other great rides too.

Okay, so we went to Nijmegen 3 months ago – but better late than never!

For a change this year 4 of us decide to ride our motorbikes out there (and back) whilst Ryan drove the support vehicle. It was rather warm on the way there and we were very jealous of the air con in the car….untill we stopped and the car passengers said Ryan had turned it off to save petrol!! Genius.

The funniest thing was the contrast when we stopped, the bikers would be chatting about everything that happened on the last leg, while the car group was silent – that’ll be because we can’t talk to each other on the road

As usual much fun was had, many of ze beers were drunk, and we slept in marcels garden. Brilliant.

Well a couple of weeks ago – it seems like months! – I popped to Vegas with Sam, Tim and Marcus for a weeks R&R&G&D (Rest, Relaxation, Gambling, and Drinking). It was 7 days of 40 degree heat factor 3 billion suncream – lots of fun was had, and the place is crazy, you can’t appreciate it all from pictures, but I took loads anyway just to rub it in

Well Riggers, Darren and myself smashed the overnight Eurostar to Bourg St Maurice – a short teleferique later and we are in Les Arc – and we were on the slopes by 9am on the Saturday, giving us 8 solid days of boarding…. sheer awesomeness!

First day of lessons we turn up to the intermediate group and after a short assessment get told “you 3 english, you go to expert” ohhh yeah! Cue 4 days of going off piste, doing drop-offs, the half-pipe, and learing jumps, 180s, riding switch, and of course nose / tail presses, and “le 2p” – our instructor was a legend!

Well as a nice treat for Valentines Day Lee and I took ourselves, and the women, to London for the day and to see Ne-Yo at Wembley Arena. Cue some fun times driving to London, navigating the tube lines, then walking to see Queenie (who I’m pretty sure wasn’t even in!), grabbing some mega ribs from TGIs then sitting down to watch Ne-Yo who was pretty mega! Did a good selection of tunes from all his albums, a bit of Jacko, and some of the songs he’s written for other people. Very Good!

Well, last weekend (5th – 7th Feb) was Rich’s birthday extravaganza – not content with just jelly & ice-cream and a party bag. Rich makes us all drive 200 miles to deepest, darkest Wales to get cold and wet! It was mega! White water rafting, Archery and Hovercraft racing. Good times!

Well last weekend I spent 4 days on a boat with 5 other men, hmm we really shouldn’t do these things that sound that gay when we explain them to other people Had a brilliant time even though it was extremely tiring.

Over the course of the weekend we:

• Drank 112 beers between us.
• Walked 8 miles to the pub to catch last orders.
• Crashed the boat at least once each, more if you’re me.
