Another Monday dawns on sunny Southampton, and to save you going around the internet checking out if there are any new games or movies on the horizon I would do all the work for you and post it here, along with a quick update about anything that is out to buy or see this week. If you’ve seen something that I’ve missed, post it in the comments!

New Announcements:
Film:
- Thor – The next film in the Marvel line up (after Iron Man 2) got a new trailer over the weekend, making it look quite good! Trailer

- It was a busy weekend for game announcements due to the Spike Video Game Awards in the states so…
- SSX Deadly Descents – EA revive their Snowboarding games, but without the Afros (i.e. more serious) this time, seeing as I’ll be out of action this season, i’m looking forward to virtually hitting the slopes when this comes out. Website & Trailer
- Batman: Arkham City – Follow up to the mega successful (and awesome) Batman: Arkham Asylum, should be more of the same caped crusader beating the crap out of things and flying around, sweet! Trailer
- Uncharted 3 – More of this treasure hunting action adventure game abound, this time in Arabia searching for the Atlantis of the Sands! Trailer
- Also announced were, Forza 4, Prototype 2, Mass Effect 3 and more.. Here for more info

Garf’s Guide to.. Kinect
Welcome to “Garf’s Guide to..” the first in hopefully a series of posts helping you make sense of various subjects using my vast knowledge of all things shiny… anyway.
Last week was a very good week, Sam (the misses) bought me a nice new Xbox 360 Slim, with Kinect – the new motion controller! So I thought I’d do you guys a favour and let you know what it’s all about and advise you if you should go out and buy one too.
What is it? – It’s a new way of controlling games, but you have nothing to hold onto or press so it makes life a bit more simple, although you still have to be quite co-ordinated on occasion. The kinect unit itself has 2 cameras in it which pick up where you are standing and then it films you moving which the Xbox then turns into your game / character moving on the screen, it’s very clever stuff! The kinect also has a built-in microphone and the idea is that you can control the xbox with your voice, which is a great idea.
Whats it like to use? – Mostly it’s very easy, on screen instructions appear frequently but you don’t really need them, move your hand and the hand on-screen moves too, hold it over an item to select it, done. The one downfall is in the voice control aspect, it’s not very clear or very comprehensive and certain commands don’t even work – but it’s early days yet and this will no doubt improve.
Is it fun? – Yes. Playing the included Kinect Adventures game is great fun, either on your own or with a friend after a few beers
Some aspects are clearly just demonstrations of what the Kinect can do, but others are very fun party games with no danger of a controller going through your TV.
Is it worth getting now? – It depends, if you already have a Wii then probably not. If not, then do it. It won’t be coming down in price any time soon, and you have all the Christmas bundles in the shops now. Also, microsoft have invested too much money in this for it to fail, the games and applications will get better it will just take a bit of time. It will be fun on Christmas Day though.
What games should I get? – Well the free one, Kinect adventures is great but you’ll already have that. The next best one is… Dance Central, yep I know, a grown man dancing in front of the TV does not sound like fun, but actually it is and you’ll be amazed when it tells you you’re not moving your right arm or left foot correctly. Kinect sports are all good fun too! As usual there are also a fair amount of exercise games, these vary but the EA active game comes with a heart rate monitor and an exercise band – good if you don’t mind paying the extra for it. You can go to IGN for a full review of every kinect game (I haven’t played them all) http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/113/1132215p1.html
Enjoy!

Winchester Meal 2010
Who could believe it was that time of year again – December = another Nijmegen reunion dinner, although the Nijmegen element seems to be taking a back seat and it’s more of an ex-424 reunion. This year we had to contend with several of the lads being away on Ops, and one on a post Ops holiday of a lifetime…barnsey! We started off in Winchester town for a cheeky couple before getting into our evening wear to enjoy the delights of the Gurkha mess, and finally back into going-out wear for a few more jars in Winchester town. I think everyone will agree it was an epic night, with and epic hangover to follow!

CoD hecklers VS US SF
We’ve all been online hearing people abuse us over the headset, but these guys decided to see if Xbox live hecklers can rile someone from US special forces.
Goodbye Facebook!
Well I did something today I never thought I’d do, I deactivated my account on Facebook. So all those extra minutes a day I now have free can be used to: Text my friends, phone my friends, go down the pub with my friends, play CoD with my friends, or even update the website! (nah, lol)
So keep your eyes on GDC for some more frequent updates about some different topics to just us going out drinking – although that is still the main topic!
Harry Potter Land 2010
Sam and I go to Harry Potter Land for my birthday! Who says we have to grow up?
We actually went to Orlando Florida, home of many theme parks, but the main new attraction being “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” the attention to detail is amazing there.
Anyway, two great weeks of eating and drinking craploads, and scaring that crap out of ourselves on numerous rides and attractions. Watch the videos of Manta – the best roller coaster ever! The Hulk. Harry Potter and the forbidden journey. Disco H2O to name but a few. There were loads of other great rides too.
And now for our pics
Nijmegen 2010

Okay, so we went to Nijmegen 3 months ago – but better late than never!
For a change this year 4 of us decide to ride our motorbikes out there (and back) whilst Ryan drove the support vehicle. It was rather warm on the way there and we were very jealous of the air con in the car….untill we stopped and the car passengers said Ryan had turned it off to save petrol!! Genius.
The funniest thing was the contrast when we stopped, the bikers would be chatting about everything that happened on the last leg, while the car group was silent – that’ll be because we can’t talk to each other on the road
As usual much fun was had, many of ze beers were drunk, and we slept in marcels garden. Brilliant.
Oh if anyone found my Camo Morphsuit, please return it
